tracking service outages separate from incidents/tickets

Is anyone using samanage to track different types of service outages for systems managed by IT? For instance we had a phone service outage today that will carry over into tomorrow we'd like to be able to track the progress on that outage and any other outages so every year we can look back at what types of outages we had, what the duration was, who was impacted and what the preventative measures were?
