I want to use one system (JAMF, FileWave, etc.) for managing the device config, and Samanage for inventory/asset management. Can't do both with the profiles as they are currently configured - iOS only allows one to install. Help!
We're in the exact same scenario. However, there's a simple answer to this question: Apple.
Apple designed iOS devices to only be managed by one MDM solution. I suppose it makes it simpler (what if one says to block something while the other enables it?). But the difficult part is that we can't use both Jamf/Casper AND Samanage's solution. MacOS can have more than one, though, so it's doable just maybe not ideal. In our case, we only want it to collect info, not work as a full fledged MDM solution.
We're exploring working with Samanage's professional services to get an export from Jamf into Samanage on a scheduled basis. However, the mechanism to do this is limited. For instance, out of all of the fields you can see in the web app, only a very small subset are allowed to be updated via the API.
It's a frustrating scenario to be sure.
Thanks Todd, makes me feel better at the very least that I wasn't missing something obvious. I will work whatever paltry Apple connections I have to push the idea of a multi-profile feature enhancement for iOS. In the meantime I'll use whatever MDM I choose (FileWave most likely) to export/import data into Samanage.
Of course if you move the needle with Apple at all, it's a Big Deal for larger users like mine - I have hundreds of iOS devices deployed and this would be a real win to install more than one profile.
