Introduction to the Samanage API

Discussion created by stephanie.davis@samanage.com Employee on Sep 29, 2016

Here at Samanage we have put a lot of time and effort into our open REST API. It is something that we are very passionate about.  However, sometimes we forget that for some users this is their first web service or open API. With that in mind, we wanted to put together a quick video on how to use the API with our most basic command.

There are plenty of of use cases for utilizing the API that can be pretty simple, such as creating new categories. Or they can be more complicated, such as having an HR program kick-off an on-boarding service request, or importing information into an in-house database for a business intelligence tool to reference.

I am using terminal on a Mac Book Pro for the requests. If you are using the command line on a PC, you will need to use double quotes in the request. The example below illustrates the slight difference.

curl --digest -u “USERNAME” -d “<incident><name>INCIDENT NAME</name><priority>PRIORITY</priority><requester><email>EMAIL</email></requester></incident>” -H “Accept: application/vnd.samanage.v1.1+xml” -H “Content-Type:text/xml” -X POST https://api.samanage.com/incidents.xml

Again, this is just meant as an introduction to the API. If this has sparked your interest, but you don’t have the time or resources to commit to a project in house, you can always utilize our professional services and we will work with you to build it out. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or Support to discuss details.
