One powerful feature of the Samanage application is the ability to automatically pull warranty information from hardware manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo, HP and Apple.
The retrieval of warranty information is done by referencing a computer's serial number. In other words, it is not required for a computer to have the Samanage agent installed on it for its warranty information to be populated in the computer details page under the "Lifecycle' tab. See example below:
If you have computers that you don't want to install the agent on, but wish to have the application retrieve their warranty information automatically, you can manually add them to your inventory following the steps below:
1. Navigate to the Computers section under Inventory.
2. Click the "+ New Computer" button.
3. Fill in the required fields (Name and Serial Number) and click the "Create Computer" button.
As soon as the computer is added to your hardware inventory, Samanage will add it to the Warranty retrieval queue and will retrieve the information. Please note that this process can take a couple of hours for new computers.
