Integrating Samanage with PagerDuty using Zapier

Discussion created by 6472333 on Sep 8, 2014
Zapier lets you easily connect the web apps you use, making it easy to automate tedious tasks.

PagerDuty provides alerting, on-call scheduling, escalation policies and incident tracking to increase uptime of your apps, servers, websites and databases. It is an Operations Platform for IT, available to alert your team and aggregate system information at every step of the incident lifecycle.

One use case of the Samanage/PagerDuty integration would be triggering an incident in PagerDuty as a result of new incident being detected  in your Samanage service desk.  Below are steps on how to set up this use case in Zapier.

1. After successfully logging in to Zapier, click the Make a Zap! link at the top right of the page.

2. Choose both your desired triggering app and corresponding trigger and action app and corresponding action.

3. Select the Samanage account that you want to use for the integration.

4. If the Samanage account you chose is recognized and active, after clicking the Test this Account button you should see the text Account is working.

5. Select the PagerDuty account that you want to use for the integration.

6. If the PagerDuty account you chose is recognized and active, after clicking the Test this Account button you should see the text Account is working.

7. Choose the filters that you would want to have trigger a ?New incident? from Samanage. You can use fields from Samanage as filters.

8. Match up an incident in Samanage to a PagerDuty Trigger Event.  You can insert fields from Samanage.

9. Test the zap to ensure that data is retrieved.

10. Give the zap a name and turn it on to initiate the integration.

11. To see the zap in your list of zaps click the Dashboard link at the top of the page.

Other use case accompanied by corresponding trigger and action configurations:

  1. Triggering an incident in PagerDuty as a result of a new risk being detected in your Samanage service desk

    1. Trigger: Samanage -> New Risk (New risk was detected)

    2. Action: PagerDuty -> Add Trigger Event (Trigger an incident in PagerDuty with this Incident Key)
