Software Tags

Software tags are an essential part of the application as they provide a general way to identify software, making it easier to track and manage. It is easy to lose track of correct tags when multiple are in use, so it is important to ensure that they are managed properly. For example, there might be duplicates of the same tag (ex: Microsoft Pro 2003 and Microsoft Professional 2003). This little difference can throw off the number of licenses identified and and cause other issues. Managing your software tags will make the process of reconciling much simpler.

To find your company's tags, follow the steps below:

1. Click on Inventory.
2. Click on Software.

When there are duplicate tags, you can easily update the tags for multiple software instances. In this case, we will be changing the tags for Microsoft Framework software. Currently they are Microsoft Framework 2.0 and Microsoft Framework 3.0 and we are going to update the tag to be Microsoft Framework. Here's how:

1. Click Criteria - Vendor.
2. Click Tag - Microsoft Framework 2.0.

3. Click Tag - Microsoft Framework 3.0.
4. Click Apply and you will see the results.

In order to do a mass update to the tags, follow the instructions below:

1. Click Update to bring down the "update screen".
2. Choose which software instances you want updated.
3. Click software - Visible.
4. Type in what the updated tag will be.
5. Click Update Selected.

Your tags have been updated now.

You can also view the software tags by following the steps below:

1. Go to Contracts.
2. Go to Reconcile.
3. Here you will see in the first column the software tags.
