API: Link incident to catalog item

While items in the service catalog have unique IDs, and incidents have attributes 'is_service_request' set to true and 'description_no_html' set to html stripped title of service catalog item, there is no reliable way to link an incident to the originating service request (catalog item). Perhaps the html stripped 'description' attribute of a catalog item may serve as a surrogate reference to the 'description_no_html' attribute on incident, however referential integrity may be compromised if the mutable 'description' on catalog item is altered.


Is there a means I am missing to link the incident originating from a catalog item? If not, is there a plan to add the catalog item id as an attribute on incidents which have 'is_service_request' set to true?
