Auto-assign ticket state

When I'm entering  ticket from a "drive-by", I set the ticket in the creation state to myself. I get that there is a drop down in the upper left to change the state there. But my question is, why not auto-assign it to the "assigned" state after you enter the incident - I've already assigned it to myself. Why does it need to be manually changed?
