TImeout error using API

Anyone else have experience using the API to generate Incidents?  We added the ability for customers to generate Incidents from our portal a little over a month ago.  Each day we have  2 to 3 requests fail due to a timeout error.  So far, working with engineering has not helped.  Wanted to see what others experience is.
