specify Incident_Type through API incident creation

I'm trying to create incidents using the API but I can't seem to find a way to specify the incident type through the API. I've looked in the documentation and there is nothing about Incident Type.

On receiving the incident type through a HTTP GET, there is a lot included in the <incident_type> tag. Would it be possible to flag a new incident in a HTTP POST with just the ID and name of the incident type?

Currently we're submitting these incidents to an email dropbox for that incident type, but I'd like to move to the API's and this is necessary for us to do so.
