Automatic assignment when creating incident do not change incident status

I have certain type of incidents configured to be assigned to a team member. I found out that when the incident is created with that category, is successfully assigned to him, but the state is not automatically changed.

The behavior when you assign someone from the incidents list is to change the status from "New" to "Assigned", and this seems to not be the case when that same thing happens automatically.

Does anyone see this as an inconsistency?
