It would be a nice if we could specify a different list of states by category, that way the list of states doesn't get too long.

For us specifically, we have different categories such as Support, IT, Change Requests, etc... for Support, a state of Waiting Approval does not make sense, yet it does for our IT category. Another example would be in our Change Request category, we might need a state for "awaiting payment" yet we would not need this for the Support, or IT categories.
We already have a lot of states set up, which don't necessarily apply to each category. We do not want people using the wrong state which doesn't even apply to the category, but other than training there is no other way to prevent it.
