Custom Fields Tutorial

Samanage allows you to add custom fields throughout the application. These fields let you capture all of the information that is important to you. Before you create these fields, you will need to create the custom form that you wish to place the fields in. To do this you will need to give it a name and select which module of the application you would like for it to go. If you select Incidents, you will also be able to select category and subcategory.

Once you have created a form for your field to go you may then create as many custom fields as you would like. When you are creating a field you will need to give it a name and select which type of field you would like for it to be. Some of the options for type include text, dropdown, checkbox, date, etc. Depending on which type you select, you may need to enter some values.

After you have finished creating both your forms and fields you can drop the field you want into the form of your choice. For this function we use a drag and drop method. By clicking on the little gray arrow next to the form name, it will open that form for fields to be inserted. Once you have opened the desired form, click and drag the field you want and drop it into that form as shown below:

As you can see in the picture above, these custom fields can be marked mandatory or can be shown on the self service portal. Custom forms and fields allow you to customize your Samanage application to make sure that captured information and processes work for your organization.

 

One example of a custom field use case would be using these to check in or check out pieces of equipment. You could add time and date in and out using the field type "Date and Time", then add a fields to capture information on the person checking that piece of equipment out. They also allow you to capture correct information based on category. For example, an HR vacation request could have fields for date and number of days off, etc. There are tons of use cases for custom fields which allow you to form Samanage to your organization's processes.
