The agent's inventory is automatically refreshed about every 24 hours of operation of the computer (it has to be turned on).

The agent runs as a windows service and will trigger a refresh based on that schedule.

To optimize for outbound bandwidth utilization, the agents will randomize the next inventory refresh around the 24 hour timeframe so that not all agents report together at the same time.

In some cases you may wish to force the agent on a certain machine to manually push an update. To do this, run the following commands in Command Prompt in Windows and Terminal in MacOS (you can simply copy these and paste into command prompt/terminal):

  • In Windows: "c:\Program Files\Samanage Agent\agent\ruby\bin\ruby.exe" "c:\Program Files\Samanage Agent\agent\src\mini_kernel\cmd.rb" -f OR "c:\Program Files (x86)\Samanage Agent\agent\ruby\bin\ruby.exe" "c:\Program Files (x86)\Samanage Agent\agent\src\mini_kernel\cmd.rb" -f
  • In Mac:  sudo /Applications/SamanageAgent.app/Contents/Resources/agent/ruby/bin/ruby  /Applications/SamanageAgent.app/Contents/Resources/agent/src/mini_kernel/cmd.rb -f

Success is indicated by return to the command prompt without any error message.
