New Workflow Engine Now Generally Availability (GA) To All Customers

We have upgraded our workflow engine, introduced single-item migrations, and have enhanced the the user experience. These improvements seek to help service desk teams simplify the process of creating and editing service catalog items and automating business processes across the company.

 

Previously, these capabilities were made available to new customers starting in October 2016 and to existing customers through Samanage labs. Starting on Sunday, November 6, 2016, these capabilities will be generally available (GA) to all Samanage customers.

How does the single-item migration capability work?

You will now be able to migrate single catalog items from the former workflow engine to the new workflow engine.  Single-Item Migration allows you to copy all of the values of the existing catalog item, including all fields, variables, and the process to the new format. Customers who are using the new workflow capability can also migrate existing catalog items to the new workflow model, helping you to confirm the process is working as desired.

 

Once completed, you will be presented with the new catalog item in edit mode so that you can review and save it. The new catalog item will automatically be named with the words “New workflow” preceding the existing name. This of course can then be appended as needed to suit your process naming conventions.

 

The migration process can be started from a catalog item in edit mode, at the bottom of the page as per the screenshot below:

 

 

Will Samanage automatically “migrate” service catalog items built using the former workflow engine?

Yes. Starting on November 13, 2016 we will also migrate your existing catalog items to the new workflow. Everything will remain the same as you designed them, now with the new workflow engine powering them. It will NOT affect any existing Service Requests created from your catalog items which used the former workflow engine. Those will run their path to completion. Additionally, the single-item migration capability will disappear as an option as it will no longer be needed.
